The Israeli government appears to be moving towards a full occupation of the Gaza Strip , according to information from the Jerusalem Post, citing a government source. The crucial meeting on decisions on the continuation of the war concluded on Tuesday afternoon.

During the three-hour meeting, the head of the Israeli armed forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, presented the military options for the next phase of the operation in Gaza. Although - according to the same source - he disagrees with the scenario of a full occupation, this does not mean that he will not implement it, if a relevant decision is made by the Security Council.

The armed forces staff is reportedly declaring its readiness to implement any military order from the cabinet, it is noted.

According to the Israeli official who spoke to the Jerusalem Post, Benjamin Netanyahu is set to convene a new, expanded cabinet meeting soon, during which both the possibility of full military control and negotiations for a hostage exchange agreement will be discussed.

The same official added that after the recent visit of Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, a broader political consensus has emerged that any agreement should include the release of all hostages.

As of Monday evening, sources in the newspaper reported that Netanyahu has made a final decision in favor of the complete occupation of Gaza, even with operations in areas where hostages are being held.
