Trump moves forward Putin's ceasefire deadline by 50 days

Donald Trump is moving forward the deadline he gave Russia. Fourteen days ago, the US president announced that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had fifty days to reach a ceasefire with Ukraine, or face heavy tariffs. Trump said Putin now has ten to twelve days to agree to a ceasefire.

"I'm disappointed in President Putin, very disappointed," Trump told reporters as he met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland."That's why I'm going to reduce the 50 days I gave him to a smaller number."

Trump has repeatedly expressed his disappointment in Putin's unwillingness to end the war. Two weeks ago, he therefore threatened new sanctions against Russia if the country doesn't quickly agree to a ceasefire. These would involve"secondary tariffs." This means the United States would impose high trade tariffs on countries that still trade with Russia. This could affect countries like China and India.

After Trump imposed the deadline, there has been no clear breakthrough in the peace process.

Zelensky praises Trump's determination after early deadline

Zelensky emphasizes that Ukraine remains committed to peace and wants to continue working with the United States"to make both countries safer, stronger, and more prosperous." He thanks Trump for his efforts to end the war.

Victims of Olenivka attack remembered in Kyiv

A memorial service was held on Independence Square in Kyiv to commemorate the victims of the Olenivka attack. On July 29, 2022, Russian forces shelled a prison facility in Russian-controlled Molodizhne, near Olenivka, killing dozens of Ukrainian prisoners of war. The attack is considered a false flag operation during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The rally in Kyiv brought together relatives, survivors, and supporters to pay their respects and demand justice.

Dmitry Medvedev: 'Every new ultimatum is a step towards war'

Dmitry Medvedev, the former Prime Minister and President of Russia and the current chairman of the Security Council, has responded on X to Donald Trump's statements. The US president said earlier today that he would shorten the 50-day deadline he had given Putin for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Trump is"very disappointed" in the Russian president and would therefore like to give him another ten days. But that is a dangerous game, according to Medvedev.

Trump is playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 days or 10... He needs to remember two things: 1. Russia is not Israel, and not even Iran. 2. Every new ultimatum is a threat and a step toward war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country. Don't go the way of Sleepy Joe!

Estonia summons Russian chargé d'affaires after territorial waters violation

The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russia's charge d'affaires on Monday after a Russian ship entered the country's territorial waters. In a message on Platform X, Estonian Minister Margus Tsahkna called it"a serious and unacceptable violation of the maritime border."

On Saturday, a Russian Coast Guard vessel briefly entered Estonian waters without permission. The vessel traveled about 500 meters before withdrawing.

Foreign military vessels are allowed to enter Estonian territorial waters peacefully only if they notify the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 48 hours in advance."The Russian vessel did not do so," the Baltic state's military said.

This is the first time this year that a Russian ship has violated Estonian maritime space. In May, a Russian fighter jet had already entered Estonian airspace.

Tensions between the two countries have risen since Russia launched its aggressive war in Ukraine in February 2022. Russia has had no ambassador in the country since February 2023.

Lithuania reports 'flying object' from Belarus in airspace

In eastern Lithuania, an object from Belarus has flown into the NATO member state's airspace. According to the National Crisis Center, several citizens observed an unmanned aircraft flying at an altitude of approximately 200 meters, most recently spotted near the capital, Vilnius.

Following the reports, police mobilized and informed all agencies, a spokesperson told the BNS news agency. It is still unclear what kind of flying object was involved and whether it poses a threat. Social media reports mention a drone.

Defense Minister Dovile Sakaliene told Lithuanian radio that the information is still being investigated and verified."We cannot yet say what type of object or objects it is," he said. The minister also pointed out that the weather is favorable for weather balloons, which smugglers use to transport goods illegally across the border.

Belarus is a staunch ally of Russia. Since the start of the war against Ukraine, drones have flown into the airspace of neighboring Baltic states several times. Earlier this month, a Russian-made Belarusian drone crashed near the border in Lithuania.
