This is a first in the history of the French Senate: a conference entirely devoted to the epic of the Green March was organized there, in the presence of several senators, including Christian Cambon, the Senate President's special envoy for international relations. Alongside them, a delegation of Moroccan parliamentary advisors, led by Mohamed Zidouh, president of the Morocco-France friendship group, took part in this highly symbolic commemoration.
Mohamed Zidouh said he was honored and proud to participate in an event which, in his view, illustrates the excellent renewed and strengthened relations between Rabat and Paris, under the leadership of the two heads of state, King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron. He recalled that the historic state visit of the French president to Morocco in November 2024 was a pivotal moment, giving rise to a new dynamic in the strategic partnership between the two countries. On October 29, 2024, Emmanuel Macron had also affirmed before the Moroccan Parliament in Rabat that, for France, the present and future of the Sahara are enshrined within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, marking a major political alignment with the Kingdom's position.
Taking the floor in turn, Christian Cambon emphasized that 50 years to the day after the launch of the Green March, the United Nations Security Council endorsed the Moroccan autonomy plan as a central element in resolving the conflict. He added that these two historic and symbolic events will now march together in the history of Morocco and undoubtedly make this evening even more exceptional.
The unwavering friendship between Morocco and Morocco, in harmony with the 50th anniversary of the #GreenMarch of November 6, 1975, celebrating the #MoroccanSahara (reinforced by UN Security Council Resolution 2797 of October 31, 2025), was celebrated last night at the Senate, at the invitation of @ChCambon & @AmbaMarocFrance. — Dupuy Emmanuel (@Emdupuy) November 7, 2025
The Kingdom's ambassador to Paris, Samira Sitaïl, also welcomed this commemoration held within the French Senate itself, highlighting the crucial role played by this institution in supporting Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara."I believe the French Senate has been a pioneer in this support," the diplomat emphasized, recalling the unwavering commitment of the French parliamentary government to the Kingdom on this strategic issue.
