Six people were killed after Israeli forces opened fire on suspects who the military said approached soldiers near the agreed ceasefire line in northern Gaza.

The army said several suspects had been identified and shot at to eliminate the"threat" due to "violation of the ceasefire agreement." Health authorities said six people had died in two separate incidents, the Independent reported.

The incident comes just a day after US President Donald Trump vowed to"rebuild Gaza" after Israel and Hamas exchanged hostages and detainees on Monday, ending a two-year conflict in the enclave.

Trump hailed a"new beginning for the entire beautiful Middle East" after his peace deal was signed in Egypt alongside Western and Arab leaders.

Speaking to reporters after the summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, the US president avoided taking a position on a Palestinian state:"I'm not talking about a single state or a dual state or two states. We're talking about rebuilding Gaza."
