(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Koh Dong-wook = President Lee Jae-myung said on the 15th,"As a loyal servant of the sovereign people of the Republic of Korea, I will only trust the people and stride forward toward a 'country where the people are the masters, a country where the people are happy.'"
The president said in a "Letter to the People" read at the national appointment ceremony held at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on the evening of Liberation Day,"I am deeply honored to have received this letter of appointment that contains the people's earnest wishes, and I feel an immense sense of responsibility."
The national inauguration ceremony was held on June 4th, 72 days after the inauguration, as it was an event that replaced the inauguration ceremony that was omitted as the government was launched immediately after the early presidential election.
The event was held in the form of the people's representatives directly presenting the letter of appointment to the president in accordance with the value of 'popular sovereignty.'
The president expressed his gratitude to the people, saying,"Thanks to all of you who sacrificed your youth to protect our country and to all of you who achieved modernization with your sweat, the Republic of Korea, the world's 10th largest economy, exists." He added,"Whenever a national crisis struck our country, it was thanks to all of you who held onto the brightest light and drove away the darkness that our blood-laden democracy was able to breathe again."
He also said,"As the great 80 years of modern history have proven, the source of the Republic of Korea's national strength has always been the people," and pledged,"The 'government of popular sovereignty' will always place the people, the source of national strength, at the center of the philosophy and vision of state administration."

The president emphasized,"The capacity of the people is the capacity of the nation," and "Developing the potential and capacity of the people will be the driving force of national development, and as each and every one of the 52 million citizens is happy, the national power will grow, and in a 'nation where the people are the masters' who enjoy that national power together, great citizens will be at the center of all futures."
More specifically, the president said,"I will move forward toward a 'nation where we all live well together,' embracing the children's hopes that their beloved schools will not disappear and the elders' hopes that their villages will be filled with children."
He mentioned the residents of the border area and the families of the victims of the disaster, saying,"I will do my best to help this country blossom into a peaceful and safe country," and mentioned the sweat and effort of cultural figures and aspiring sports figures, saying,"I will give wings to that dream."
He also promised,"We will provide strong support so that entrepreneurs can grow freely and compete confidently in the global market, and so that scientists and engineers can focus solely on innovation."
The president said,"The adversity facing us now is unprecedentedly arduous, but compared to the countless crises we have overcome, it is not insurmountable." He urged,"Let us overcome this crisis with united strength and leave behind a more glorious and shining country."
He concluded his speech by saying,"I am extremely proud to have been appointed as the President of the Republic of Korea, a country rebuilt by the great people of Korea."
