PP MP Noelia Núñez admits she has no education: "I've never intended to deceive."

Wednesday, July 23

Noelia Núñez, the youngest member of the PP leadership, has not completed any of the three university degrees she started. The politician herself acknowledged this on her X account after the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, questioned on the same social network the party listed on the Congress file of the PP.

"In light of the confusion surrounding my academic background, I want to clarify that I have never intended to deceive anyone. The People's Party (PP), in which I believe, acts with complete transparency, and I want to do the same," he wrote.

The PP's deputy secretary for Mobilization and Digital Challenge decided to study law at the Complutense University of Madrid. She transferred her academic record to the UNED and changed her educational path: in 2019, she switched to the Combined Degree in Law and Legal Sciences of Public Administrations, also starting a degree in English Studies.

Núñez clarified that he hasn't completed any of the three university degrees he began, although he assures us that he intends to resume them."My political career [...] has occupied my time and effort," he stated.

The MP reiterated throughout her publication that the incorrect information on her Congressional record, which attributes her a dual degree in Law and Legal Sciences of Public Administration, was a mistake on her part, not intended to deceive.

A wrong resume

It was Minister Óscar Puente who first raised doubts about the PP's career. The Minister of Transport considered it"strange" not to know where Núñez had studied, as her record in the Congress of Deputies summarized her education as follows:

"Secondary education at Colegio Albante. Baccalaureate in Health Sciences at Colegio Khalil Gibrán. Double degree in Law and Legal Sciences of Public Administration. Councilor at the Fuenlabrada City Council since 2015. Deputy in the Madrid Assembly from 2021 to 2023."

The minister continued publishing images of different and contradictory versions of the CV of the former president of the People's Party (PP) in Fuenlabrada. Unlike in Congress, it was Núñez's profile in the town hall of Fuenlabrada where her studies in Philology appeared.

But Noelia Núñez also teaches at the Francisco Marroquín University. Her biography at the university reflected a Law Degree from the Central Missouri University.

"I want to make it clear that on February 20, 2024, I submitted a request for correction of the data provided. Yesterday, I requested it again so that the correct information would appear," the PP MP stated, referring to this data.

THE PSOE ASKS FOR HIS RESIGNATION

Following Núñez's clarifications, the PSOE has demanded her resignation for"consciously and repeatedly false" about her academic record, because, if not,"it would show that the PP is allowed to lie without consequences." They add that "it is unsustainable for a political leader to maintain her position after having lied about her academic record" and that Núñez's continuation "discredits the institutions and sends an unacceptable message to the public."

"We often hear the PP say that in Europe, people resign for things like this. In Europe, when a politician is caught lying on their CV, the next step is to see them resign, and I think that's the only way out," said Minister Puente, who was the first to question the veracity of Núñez's studies.

The Socialist Parliamentary Group has filed a letter addressed to the Congress Board to, firstly, request that the popular deputy eliminate the erroneous data that appears on her studies from the Lower House's website.

And, secondly, the Socialists ask that the Bureau"urge the deputy to fulfill her duty to conform her conduct to the principle of honesty." The PSOE refers to what is established in the Code of Conduct of the Cortes Generales (in its article 2.1):"In the exercise of their functions, [deputies] shall observe the following general principles of conduct: integrity, transparency, diligence, honesty, responsibility, and respect." Thus, the Socialists point out that Núñez could have incurred in a breach of these regulations.
