Local authorities in the Safi region reported, in an updated tally, a new increase in the number of victims of the floods that the region experienced, as a result of the violent and exceptional thunderstorms that the region witnessed on Sunday evening, which caused sudden and strong flash floods during a short period of time.
According to the latest official data, the death toll has risen to 21 cases, as a result of strong floods sweeping away a number of people, or as a result of water flooding several affected areas within the region's jurisdiction.
The public authorities are continuing their intensive mobilization to continue the combing, rescue and search operations for possible missing persons, while taking the necessary measures to secure the affected areas and ensure the safety of citizens.
Various stakeholders are also working, in continuous field coordination, to provide support and assistance to the population affected by these floods, in a context marked by the scale of human and material losses caused by these unprecedented floods.
The city of Safi experienced multiple material damages, represented by the flooding of nearly 70 houses and shops in the old city, especially in Bir Anzaran Street and Abu Al-Dahab Square.
The floods also swept away about 10 cars, and damaged the road section linking Safi and the center of the Ahraara commune on Regional Road 2300, which led to the interruption of traffic on several axes at the city level.
