DOBROPILIA, KOMPAS.com - Ukraine on Friday (15/8/2025) announced the successful recapture of six villages previously controlled by Russia.
The statement was made by the Ukrainian General Staff after Moscow carried out a major offensive in the eastern region.
Russian attacks briefly put pressure on Ukrainian defenses on Tuesday (12/8/2025), with rapid advances towards the city of Dobropillia.
The advance by Moscow's troops comes ahead of a summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, which will discuss resolving the war.
However, while the summit was underway, Ukraine counter-attacked and was able to seize six villages from Russian control.

“The enemy’s advance was stopped by the forces of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU) ‘AZOV’, together with adjacent and subordinate units, over the past three days,” the Ukrainian General Staff said in an official statement, quoted by the AFP news agency.
The Ukrainian side added that six villages around Dobropillia were successfully recaptured after resistance from their troops.

According to an AFP analysis of data from the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russia's advance on Tuesday was the largest in 24 hours in more than a year.
Previously, Ukrainian authorities had ordered the evacuation of families with children from Dobropillia since July.
The city, which had a population of around 28,000 before the conflict, has been the target of repeated attacks using drones and grenades by the Russian military.
