"We have closed our ports to Israeli ships. We do not allow Turkish ships to enter Israeli ports. We no longer allow cargo ships carrying weapons and ammunition for Israel to enter our ports, and Israeli planes are not allowed to enter our airspace," Fidan said at an extraordinary session of the Turkish parliament on the war in Gaza, according to the French news agency AFP.

Turkey had already restricted trade relations with Israel in March last year due to the war in Gaza, and Fidan said today that these relations had been completely severed. According to Turkish statistics, trade exchange between the two countries amounted to seven billion dollars in 2023, according to the German news agency dpa.

AFP also reports that a major Israeli shipping company, ZIM, said on Monday that it had received a notice from Turkish port authorities that"ships owned, operated or operated by entities linked to Israel will no longer be allowed to dock in Turkish ports."

Hamas welcomed Turkey's decision. It called on Turkey, Arab and Islamic countries and"the countries of the free world" to tighten sanctions against Israel, sever all relations with it and isolate it,"so that it will be forced to end the genocide and destruction of Gaza."
