Hamas asks that the parties involved in the Gaza agreement monitor Israel's behavior and not allow it to evade its obligations to the mediators, spokesman Hazem Qassem said, according to Haaretz.

According to the Israeli military (IDF), the individuals approached Israeli forces.

"Attempts were made to distance the suspects, who did not comply and continued to approach the forces," the Israeli military (IDF) said in a statement, according to Reuters.

The individuals are said to have crossed the so-called Yellow Line - a boundary for the initial Israeli withdrawal according to the US plan - in the Shejaiya area in eastern Gaza City.

The forces therefore fired at the individuals to eliminate the threat, it added. The IDF reports that five individuals were killed, according to Times of Israel.

It is not yet clear which people may have been involved, or more about the course of events.

Health authorities in the Gaza Strip, for their part, reported that six people were killed by the Israeli military in two separate incidents in the Palestinian territory on Tuesday.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa reports that Israel used drones to attack those approaching the Shejaiya area, and that four people were killed.

On Friday, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect in the Gaza Strip.
