US President Donald Trump has threatened Moscow with 100% secondary tariffs on Russian imports if Ukraine and the Russian Federation fail to reach an agreement to end the war within the next 50 days.

In a White House meeting between Trump and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte—one day after the U.S. administration said the U.S. would supply"sophisticated" military equipment to Ukraine—the U.S. president said,"We are very, very unhappy with them [Russia]." He added that the U.S."will impose very severe tariffs if we don't reach an agreement within 50 days."

A White House official quoted by Reuters said that in this case, Trump was referring to 100% tariffs on Russian exports to the US, as well as so-called secondary tariffs, which will potentially target third countries that import Russian goods - similar to what happened recently with Venezuela.

Beyond the tariff issue, Trump said at the same meeting that the US will send more weapons to Ukraine."We're not buying them, but we're going to make them, and they [the EU/NATO] will pay for them," the US president said, without specifying, however, what type of military equipment will be sent. Along these lines, what is known for now is that the US will send Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine.

The details of the decision reflect what appear to be Trump's priorities: that the arms shipment will cost the US nothing and that the country is not dedicating any new funding to Ukraine, at least for now.
