More than half of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member states have already committed to making financial contributions to the purchase of American weapons within the framework of the initiative ("List of Priority Requirements of Ukraine").
As reported by the correspondent UNIAN, said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said at a press conference after a meeting of defense ministers of the Alliance member countries in Brussels.
Rutte noted that today the defense ministers confirmed increased defense investment, are strengthening defense production, and are stepping up support for Ukraine.
He said that Ukraine's security is linked to the security of the Alliance countries, and these are not just words. This is reflected in the support provided to Ukraine.
"Thanks to funding from allies, we are providing Ukraine with critical American weapons through PURL. The initiative provides Ukraine with the American weapons it really needs to protect its own people and hold the front line," Rutte said.
As the Secretary General of the Alliance recalled, initially six NATO member states contributed to the PURL initiative to form the procurement of the first weapons packages. These countries include the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
"Today we heard how allies, one after another, announced new contributions. More than half of the allies have joined in ensuring this important flow of support for Ukraine," Rutte emphasized.
He assured that support for Ukraine will continue unabated.
As Rutte added, there is a list of urgent needs for Ukraine, but only the United States can provide the necessary systems.
According to him, everyone knows that NATO has 32 member countries. Therefore, more than 16 countries have joined PURL.
