US President Donald Trump believes that Iran, amid the escalating confrontation with Israel, is seeking to calm the situation and hold negotiations.
He told reporters this on Monday during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G7 summit, Ukrinform's own correspondent reports.
"They would like to talk. But they should have done it sooner," the US president said in response to a question from reporters about what he had heard from mediators that Iran was seeking de-escalation.
Trump recalled that he gave Iran 60 days to make a deal.
"Iran will not win this war, and they must negotiate, they must negotiate immediately, before it's too late," he noted.
As Ukrinform reported, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bahai stated on Monday, June 16, that the Iranian parliament is preparing a bill on the country's withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
