"Given the existing agreements between the United Nations and the host country, we all call for a reconsideration of this decision," EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas said of the US decision regarding visas for the Palestinian delegation after an informal meeting of foreign ministers in Denmark.

Authorities in Washington announced on Friday that they would not issue visas to the Palestinian delegation to enter the United States ahead of the September general debate of leaders at the start of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Today, they announced that they would deny entry to about 80 Palestinians, including President Mahmoud Abbas.

Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon, who condemned the US decision upon arriving at the meeting, welcomed the condemnation by the entire EU."It's about respecting treaties and ensuring the unimpeded work of the UN," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted her as saying.

Fajon also called on colleagues from other EU members to take measures against Israel for human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territories.

"Inaction is unacceptable. Inaction undermines the credibility of the EU and the foundations of international law. Future generations will judge us by our actions - it is not just about legal and political responsibility, it is about morality. It is about humanity. The world is watching us, people are disappointed," the minister said in a debate on the Middle East.

The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kallas, said after the meeting that the number of member states supporting action against the Israeli authorities is increasing, but there are not yet enough to adopt measures.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen also said that things are"moving". He announced that the Danish presidency of the EU Council would review all possible actions before the next meeting of foreign ministers - scheduled for October 20. Among these, he mentioned a ban on the import of goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. This would require the consent of all member states, which, according to the minister, is unlikely to be achieved. However, instead of an import ban, high tariffs could be imposed on these goods, for which the support of a qualified majority of members would be sufficient.

Kallas announced that in the coming months she will also discuss with ministers how, within the framework of the EU's founding treaties, the decision-making procedures of member states in the field of foreign policy could be adjusted to make the union more effective.
