Péter Szijjártó said that Hungary is today the safest country in Europe and the most vocal European member of the international peace camp. The Hungarian Prime Minister, as the only European leader, has been able to build and maintain cooperation based on mutual respect with both the American and Russian presidents.

The minister pointed out that Hungary, as the only EU member state, has consistently stood for peace, represented the cause of peace, and always believed in diplomacy. Three and a half years ago, when the war in Ukraine broke out, Hungary indicated that it was ready to help, willing to play any role as a mediator or to carry out important activities in the cause of peace.

Organizing with full force

"We have now reached the point where the American and Russian presidents have agreed that the peace summit will be held in Budapest," the politician emphasized, adding: Hungary, as an island of peace, is ready to organize the peace summit.

Péter Szijjártó said that almost all of the European Union countries – with the exception of Slovakia and Hungary – are pursuing a war policy. The vast majority of politicians in Brussels are presenting the war in Ukraine as their own war. Brussels is preparing for war, wants to put the European Union in war mode, wants to arm Ukraine, wants to finance Ukraine with the money of the European people, while Hungary is organizing a peace summit. That is the difference, he noted.

The minister said that Budapest had already been mentioned as a possible location during the organization of the previous Alaska summit. Now, when the two presidents spoke again in the second half of the week, Hungary indicated that it would undertake to organize the summit. That evening, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán spoke with Donald Trump, and then with Vladimir Putin the next morning, the politician said, adding that he himself had consulted with American and Russian diplomatic leaders.

According to him, preparatory meetings are being organized before the summit, and the foreign ministers have been appointed to coordinate them. Once these are completed, the schedule and then the exact date may become clear. Péter Szijjártó emphasized that Hungary will do everything to ensure that the summit is successful and will do everything in the interest of peace.

The politician called the statement that Hungary was isolated “demagogic propaganda.” He said the European Union had isolated itself from the world’s most powerful political players on the world stage. "We can be sure that the vast majority of European Union politicians will do everything in the coming weeks or days to prevent this summit from taking place, because if the summit takes place, it offers a chance for peace, and they are interested in prolonging the war," he said.
