Ukraine reports renewed Russian attacks on its energy supply: Several gas production facilities were hit, halting production. President Zelenskyy also accused Russia of deliberately targeting rescue workers.
According to Ukrainian sources, Russia has once again attacked the energy supply – shortly before the meeting between US President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington, scheduled for this week."This fall, the Russians are using every day to attack our energy infrastructure," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram. More than 300 attack drones and 37 rockets and cruise missiles were used. The infrastructure attacked was in the Vinnytsia region in the west, as well as Sumy and Poltava in the northeast.
Air raid sirens were temporarily sounded throughout Ukraine during the night. The previous day, there were temporary power outages across the country due to previous Russian attacks on the energy supply.
According to Zelensky, one person was injured in the city of Nizhyn in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Chernihiv. Damage was also reported. Photos from Ukrainian emergency services show a burning residential building.
Apparently, gas production facilities were also targeted."As a result of the attack, gas production facilities in the Poltava region were shut down," said the country's largest private energy supplier, DTEK. The gas company Naftogaz also announced that"hits and destruction occurred in several regions simultaneously." As a result, the operation of several important facilities had been suspended.
Accusation of double attacks against fire department
In the Kharkiv region in the east of the country, critical infrastructure and a civil defense unit were attacked. President Zelenskyy accused Russia of conducting a double strike to injure firefighters and energy workers working at the affected site after an attack. A second attack on the same target followed shortly after the first attack.
Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin only understands the language of pressure—there could be strong decisions that would help, Zelenskyy wrote. That depends on the US, Europe, and other partners.
On Friday, Zelenskyy plans to obtain approval from Trump's White House for the sale of"Tomahawk" cruise missiles to his country, which have a range of approximately 2,500 kilometers. This would allow Ukraine to intensify its attacks on military targets and refineries far behind the front lines. At the same time, Ukraine is developing its own longer-range weapons.
Restrictions in Belgorod, among others
In the Russian border region of Belgorod, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced that power outages may occur in the Valuyki district following a Ukrainian attack on an infrastructure facility. He also wrote on Telegram that one person was injured.
According to Governor Alexander Gusev, power outages occurred in several settlements in the southern Russian region of Voronezh. In the Volgograd region, authorities reported that drone debris fell on a substation in the Novonikolaevsky district. Work is also underway there to restore power to surrounding villages.
