UN Security Council Voting Process on Gaza Plan

Details and Analysis of Gaza Resolution

The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) praised the ongoing efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco in removing war remnants from areas adjacent to the security wall, stressing that “these operations have effectively contributed to enhancing security and safety in the region.”

The UN service highlighted that military observers of the MINURSO mission have monitored, since 2024 to date, 67 successful detonation operations carried out by the Royal Armed Forces, which enabled the destruction of a total of 13,850 unexploded ordnance and 116 landmines, in addition to 2,900 pieces of light weapons ammunition.

According to the same source, these achievements are of great importance in terms of the Kingdom’s commitment to its responsibilities in securing border areas and providing a safe environment for humanitarian operations and international monitoring.

These efforts are consistent with what was stated in the report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on the situation in the Sahara “S/2025/612”, which confirmed that the demining operations are continuing without any restrictions, noting that “cooperation with the Royal Armed Forces is essential to enable MINURSO teams to carry out their field tasks safely.”

Antonio Guterres’s latest report also revealed that during the same period, the Moroccan army cleared approximately 129 million square meters west of the security wall, including the destruction of 34 anti-personnel mines and 60 anti-vehicle mines, along with 475 pieces of explosive ordnance.

The UN report also noted the Secretary-General’s appreciation for the cooperation between the parties in the field of mine clearance, highlighting that “the continuation of these operations without any obstacles is a key pillar for ensuring the safe movement of MINURSO military observers and reconnaissance missions.”

In the same context, the United Nations considered that this field work contributes not only to enhancing safety and reducing risks within the region, but also supports stability and creates the appropriate conditions for the continuation of the political process led by the international organization.

This UN commendation reflects the firm level of field coordination between Morocco and the MINURSO mission, within the framework of the Kingdom’s keenness to combine regional security with constructive engagement in the political process sponsored by the United Nations, and embodies its strategic vision of protecting civilians, ensuring the stability of the region, and enhancing confidence among the parties concerned with a view to progressing towards sustainable peaceful solutions.
