US President Donald Trump noted the bravery of the Ukrainian military and the effectiveness of the American weapons provided to them, emphasizing the need to increase the pace of weapons production in the country.
He said this on Tuesday during a cabinet meeting at the White House, Ukrinform's own correspondent reports.
"I will say that the Ukrainians showed courage, but we gave them the best equipment that was ever created. We gave them anti-tank missiles that would shoot down tanks. I mean, you just point them at a tank and the tank disappears. We gave them missiles, the newest and best. They were able to shoot down a lot of things," the president said.
Trump also noted that Russia's war against Ukraine could have ended very quickly if the United States, as well as Europe, had not, according to him, created an advantage for Ukraine in the form of incredible weapons.
"And I'll say this: The Ukrainians, whether you think it's unfair that we gave them all this money (in aid - ed.) or not, they showed great courage because someone had to run these weapons. And a lot of people I know wouldn't run them, they wouldn't have the courage to do it," Trump said.
He once again called the struggle of Ukrainians very courageous. But at the same time, he emphasized the need to increase the pace of weapons production in the United States.
"We make the best military equipment, by far. There's no one that can match it. If you look at other equipment, from other countries, they don't even come close. That's why everybody wants to buy our equipment, and that's why we're going to step up these contractors that make it," Trump said.
He called American weapons manufacturers brilliant, but, the president continued, they are doing it too slowly, and we need to step them up.
As Ukrinform reported, on Monday, US President Donald Trump stated that his administration intends to supply Ukraine with more defensive weapons.
