- We will have a strong summit statement - Radosław Sikorski announced at a conference before the summit in The Hague. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also argued that Europe has already doubled its defense spending. Now it is to do it again.

Sikorski announces NATO's agreement for 5 percent for defense

Radosław Sikorski, when asked by journalists whether the agreement on 5 percent for defense in NATO is a foregone conclusion, replied directly: - From what I see in the drafts and statements, yes.

Russia is the biggest threat. We intend to prepare for this by spending specific amounts of money - said the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The minister also answered the question whether this approval is a success for Donald Trump? - He was right during his first term when he called for an increase in spending and it happened. Please also give Europe credit for what it has already done. Since then, we have doubled our spending. Now we are talking about doubling it again - Sikorski explained.

Russia Won't Attack NATO Before 2030?

The increase in defense spending to 5% is a lot, but still less than Russia spends. According to Radosław Sikorski, this is related to the fact that the Russian economy is currently in war mode, which is why"sooner or later it will have a gigantic economic hangover".

- We (Europe - editor's note) should no longer be in a state of peacetime economy, nor are we at war, but we are in a state of crisis and that is why, among other things, our government proposes to shorten procedures, for example, related to the construction of arms factories - Sikorski explained.

The Minister also cited the example of Ukraine , which built 200 factories producing weapons in three years. He explained that Europe should do the same, and in his opinion it was the bravery of the Ukrainians that gave Europe time to effectively deter Russia:

Russia will not be able to attack us before the end of the decade  - he assured before the summit in The Hague.

The priority of the Polish presidency of the EU, which is just ending, was defence. The Minister of Foreign Affairs listed the funds obtained for this purpose during this time : - One and a half billion in grants for industry (...) 150 billion from the SAFE fund, 7 billion if only Hungary had not blocked the refunds for weapons delivered to Ukraine.

Another Polish success is to be the fact that defence spending is not included in the budget deficits of member states.

The NATO summit will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday in The Hague. The main topics of discussion are the latest challenges for the Alliance and the decision on spending specific amounts on defense.
