Ukraine anti-corruption agency uncovers fraud in military procurement, multiple arrests made
Ukraine's anti-corruption authorities say they have uncovered a massive corruption case involving systematically inflating the price of military procurement for private gain. The NABOe and SAPO agencies reported arrests on Saturday in connection with contracts for the purchase of military drones and signal jamming devices.
In these cases, exorbitant prices were displayed in contracts, but those involved pocketed up to 30 percent. The agencies stated on social media that they caught a member of parliament, two local officials, and members of the National Guard.
The investigative body NABO and the prosecution body SAPO have just regained their independent status. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy abruptly revoked this a week and a half ago and placed their authority under the Prosecutor General he appointed. This move sparked major demonstrations in Ukraine and angry reactions in the EU. The amendment was reversed on Thursday.
