Peacekeeper or special agent? Ukrainian social media is making fun of Melania Trump. Posts, reels, memes, and a new nickname, Agent Trumpenko . A wide-brimmed hat, a wary look, and a jacket with the emblem of the Ukrainian trident—this is the uniform that the web has attributed to the first lady following Donald Trump's statements, in which he reportedly told NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that he had changed some of his positions on Russia after a discussion with his wife. “I go home and say to the first lady, ‘I spoke to Vladimir today… We had a wonderful conversation.’ She replied, ‘Really? Another city was just hit!'” is the tycoon's account. A husband opens the door of his home, the most famous in the world, and tells his wife about his work. An everyday scene that could, however, have a bearing on the outcome of the conflict. According to the Guardian, this domestic conversation is precisely behind Trump's change of pace, who shortly thereafter announced measures in support of Ukraine, including the shipment of Patriot air defense systems, and an ultimatum to Russia: 50 days for a peace agreement.
The feeling that Melania has a pro-Kiev stance in the White House is nothing new, and it's not limited to the current episode. The internet hasn't forgotten when, in 2022, she urged her followers to donate to the Red Cross to help the tormented Ukrainian people, claiming it was"heartbreaking and horrifying to see innocent people suffer." The Ukrainian people's affection for the first lady was also confirmed by the magazine Business in Ukraine: "There's a lot of love for Melania Trump on social media tonight" following the announcement that the United States would send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
