US President Donald Trump told Israeli lawmakers on Monday (Oct 13) that their country had no more to achieve on the battlefield and must work towards peace in the Middle East amid the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

“Generations from now, this will be remembered as the moment that everything began to change,” he declared to the Knesset, which welcomed him as a hero.

Hamas released all 20 surviving Israeli hostages earlier in the day as part of the truce, pausing two years of war that has pummelled the Gaza Strip.

In an unexpected detour, Trump also called on Israeli President Isaac Herzog to pardon Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he described as"one of the greatest" wartime leaders.
