The United States has indicated to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he must accept a U.S.-sponsored framework plan for ending the war with Russia, which would require Ukraine to give up some of its territory and some weapons, Reuters reported today, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

Among the points in the proposal is a requirement to halve the size of Ukraine's armed forces, two people told the agency, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter. Washington wants Kiev to accept the main points of the plan, they said.

Axios reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed US and Russian officials, that the Trump administration is secretly discussing a new peace plan for Ukraine with Russia. The proposal, inspired by Trump's Gaza ceasefire plan, reportedly has 28 points and includes peace in Ukraine, security guarantees, security in Europe and future US relations with Russia and Ukraine.

The Financial Times' Kyiv correspondent wrote on Wednesday that his sources said the plan was hastily prepared and reflected the Kremlin's maximalist demands. President Volodymyr Zelensky would also be removed from office.

The plan is being formulated by US special envoy Steve Witkoff, who has already discussed it with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriyev and the head of Ukraine's security council, Rustem Umerov. The White House has also begun briefing European officials about the proposal, Axios reported, citing its sources.
