Federal deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) published a video for the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), demanding that the governor take a stand alongside the people of São Paulo in the face of the tariff war waged by the president of the United States , Donald Trump .

"An atomic bomb in Brazil and the Bolsonaros celebrate, but I expect nothing from them. I'm here to speak to Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, head of the Brazilian state that exports the most to the United States. Governor Tarcísio is wasting time, giving interviews to say that the tariffs are Lula's fault," the congresswoman said in the three-minute recording, adding that it was not yet time for"narratives."

"Bolsonaro sent his son to the US to cry in Trump's lap. The result? A 50% tariff on Brazil. Look where the patriots' plan has led: to sacrifice the national economy in the name of impunity. The inconsistency is glaring: they claim to love the country, but they don't hesitate to harm it to fuel the narrative of persecution," the congresswoman wrote.

In the recording released on Thursday night, the 10th, Tabata spoke again about Eduardo's actions in the United States, for which he is being investigated by the Supreme Federal Court for seeking sanctions against the country's authorities, and about the responses of the Brazilian authorities to the tax threat.

The deputy presented data on the impacts of sectors in São Paulo that will be affected if the measure comes into effect on August 1st.

"This tariff is blackmail, holding Brazil hostage. It's shameful that something like this is orchestrated by a former president of the Republic. Don't be complicit. This video isn't an attack. It's a call for responsibility, conscience, and autonomy. São Paulo needs a governor with autonomy, with the freedom to act decisively when the times demand it. Don't give in, Governor Tarciso. Act now. The future of thousands of São Paulo residents is your responsibility," concluded the congresswoman.

Tarcísio has been criticized for blaming President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers' Party) for the taxation. The president himself, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad – who called him a"vassal" –, Institutional Relations Minister Gleisi Hoffmann , and Entrepreneurship Minister Márcio França are some of the government supporters who have pointed to the governor's actions as contrary to the interests of the people of São Paulo, the richest state in the country.

This Friday, the 11th, Tarcísio stated that he met with the chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of the United States , Gabriel Escobar, in Brasília. He said on X (formerly Twitter) that"the responsibility lies with those who govern" and that he will open a dialogue with São Paulo companies about the tariff.

"We discussed the consequences of the tariff for Brazilian industry and agribusiness, as well as the impacts on American companies," Tarcísio wrote."We will open a dialogue with São Paulo companies, based on solid data and arguments, to seek effective solutions."
