The State Department announced that Friday's meeting of the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations in Miami has concluded. The statement said the two sides held a"constructive discussion on progress toward achieving a lasting and just peace in Ukraine." Kyiv was represented at the meeting by Volodymyr Zelensky's advisor, Rustem Umerov, and Ukrainian Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Andriy Gnatov. Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, attended the meeting on behalf of the U.S.
"Rustem Umerov assured that Ukraine's priority is to secure an agreement that will protect its independence and sovereignty, guarantee the security of Ukrainians and provide a stable foundation for a democratic future," the statement read.

The State Department said the meeting discussed Tuesday's meeting of the U.S. and Russian delegations in Moscow."The Americans and Ukrainians also agreed on a framework for security arrangements and discussed the necessary deterrence measures to maintain lasting peace," the statement said.

The US administration also said that the US and Ukrainian delegations will meet again on Saturday to continue discussions on a potential peace agreement with Russia.

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, representing the U.S. in the peace negotiations, have been meeting with the Ukrainian delegation since Thursday. Earlier on Tuesday, they visited Moscow, where they talked with President Vladimir Putin.
According to Axios, Americans believe a peace agreement is possible despite the significant differences between Russia and Ukraine on many issues. After a meeting between his envoys and Putin, Donald Trump stated that Witkoff and Kushner were under the impression that the Russian president would like to reach an agreement.
