After unexpectedly dropping points at home to Poland, the Dutch traveled to Lithuania, where a knockout was expected. The Lithuanians drew twice with Malta, whom the Oranje thrashed 8-0. Initially, it seemed they would put their plans into action.

They started the match well, taking the lead in the 11th minute. Memphis Depay converted a cross from Cody Gakpo. The 31-year-old Corinthians striker thus became the Netherlands' all-time leading scorer, surpassing Robin van Persie. It was his 51st goal.

The Dutch completely dominated the match, searching for opportunities in their attacking positions. It wasn't until the 16th minute that Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen had his first touch of the ball. However, it wasn't because he needed a save, but rather to assist in a play. Quinten Timber made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute. What happened in the following minutes was surprising.

The Lithuanians gave the Dutch a scare. They came back from 0:2 down.

In the 36th and 43rd minutes, the Lithuanians had their only shots of the first half, capitalizing on a brief moment in the opponents' half. First, Gvidas Gineitis found the net, and moments later, the striker assisted a free kick for former Piast Gliwice player Edvinas Girdvainis. The hosts punished their opponents' minimalism and were rewarded with a draw.

Upon returning to the pitch, the Lithuanians began to get closer to goal more often, but this also led to a defensive opening. However, the visitors remained in control throughout.

As the minutes ticked by, the hosts struggled to maintain their intensity, with injuries forcing some substitutions. In the 64th minute, Depay saved the Dutch from embarrassment. Moments later, Donyell Malen found the back of the net, but the referee deemed a foul for pushing the defender. Gakpo hit the crossbar from outside the penalty area, but the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.

The Netherlands leads Group G, but Poland or Finland will have a chance to equalize their points tally in tonight's match. However, the Oranje national team has played one game fewer. Lithuania has three points after drawing with Finland and twice with last-place Malta.
