At the same time, he acknowledged that the tone and attitude of the United States administration and President Donald Trump towards the war in Ukraine started by Russia has changed over time, and understanding is better now than it was, for example, six months ago.

When asked which world leaders Trump could reach an agreement with and who could be on his side in trying to find a solution to the situation in Ukraine, the MEP replied that Trump's side is actually all of Europe, which is most directly affected by this war and which at the same time realizes that it cannot cope alone without US help.

Asked to comment on the fact that Hungary, which is run by Kremlin-friendly Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, was chosen as the venue for the Trump-Putin meeting, Ijab admitted that this seems like an unfortunate choice, but it should be remembered that Trump has complicated personal relationships with the leaders of many European countries.

He said on social media that the meeting in Budapest would determine"whether we can end this sad war between Russia and Ukraine."
