Băsescu emphasized that the electoral battle in Chisinau is extremely close, with pro-European and pro-Russian parties"head to head" in the polls, noting that the decisive vote will be cast by the diaspora.

"On September 28, the future of the Republic of Moldova, but also the security of Romania, will be decisively influenced by the vote of those in the diaspora," declared the former head of state.

He recalled that over a million Moldovans live and work in European Union states, many of whom also have Romanian citizenship.

"A victory for the pro-Moscow left would bring Putin's puppets into Parliament and the government in Chisinau, and on Romania's border a country subject to Moscow's orders and control," notes Traian Băsescu.

In conclusion, he said that a pro-European vote meant continuing the path towards European integration and strengthening security on the eastern border of the EU and Romania.
