The U.S. Senate is scheduled to hold a key vote on the shutdown deal Tuesday night, while members of the House of Representatives return to Washington to vote on a new version of the document.

This is reported by Ukrinform's own correspondent.

The U.S. Senate is set to debate the bill on Monday before a key vote on reopening the federal government is expected later this evening. If the new bipartisan initiative passes, the bill will be sent to the lower house for a vote.

The House of Representatives has already agreed to expedite the process of ending the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. Republican Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters on Monday that he would convene lawmakers to conduct the necessary procedures.

As Ukrinform reported, on Sunday evening the US Senate passed (60 in favor and 40 against) an amended bill, a preliminary version of which was previously passed by the House of Representatives, to restore government funding until January 30, 2026.

Under the deal, Republicans agreed to vote in December on extending health care subsidies. The bill also prohibits federal agencies from laying off workers until January 30.
