Donald Trump thinks that the Iranian people should overthrow their government if it does not negotiate on its nuclear programme, White House said.

US President Donald Trump thinks the people of Iran should overthrow their “incredibly violent regime" if it refuses to negotiate on its nuclear programme with the United States, the White House said on Monday.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that Trump was “still interested" in finding a diplomatic solution. Her remarks came a day after the US military struck three key nuclear sites in Iran on Sunday.

“If the Iranian regime refuses to come to a peaceful diplomatic solution, which the president is still interested and engaging in, by the way, why shouldn’t the Iranian people take away the power of this incredibly violent regime that has been suppressing them for decades?" news agency AFP quoted Leavitt as saying.

Top US officials have insisted that the goal is not regime change in Iran; however, Trump conveyed a different message through a post on social media on Sunday, saying, “Why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???"

“It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!" Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.

Over the weekend, US bombers struck Iran’s heavily guarded and secret nuclear enrichment sites, joining Israel’s military efforts to dismantle Iran’s nuclear programme.

Israel, the United States, and other Western countries accuse Iran of trying to secretly build nuclear weapons while claiming it’s running a civilian nuclear energy program — a charge Iran has always denied.
