ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The sixth round of nuclear talks between Iran and the United States that was supposed to take place on Sunday in Muscat, has been canceled, Oman’s foreign minister announced on Saturday.

“The Iran US talks scheduled to be held in Muscat this Sunday will not now take place. But diplomacy and dialogue remain the only pathway to lasting peace,” Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi in a post on X.

Earlier in the day, Iran had indicated it would not join the talks. The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Tehran is focused on its conflict with Israel and that talks with Israeli-ally the United States would be “meaningless” at this time.

Indirect negotiations, mediated by Oman, about Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions relief began on April 12. The fifth and most recent round took place on May 23.

Iran fired a barrage of rockets at Israel Friday night and Saturday morning in retaliation for Israel’s strikes on its nuclear facilities and assassinations of top military leaders.
