French President Emmanuel Macron said that"if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not agree by Monday meet with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, this would mean that he was again"playing and mocking" US President Donald Trump. He said this at a press conference after a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, writes The World.
He rejected any accusations against him after calling Putin a"cannibal" and a "predator" and did not back down from his words.
"When we say that there is a cannibal at the gates of Europe (...), I think it describes what Georgians, Ukrainians and many other peoples feel very deeply, that is, a person who has decided to move towards an authoritarian, autocratic drift and to lead revisionist imperialism," Macron said.
He recalled that on August 18, three days after the summit in Anchorage, Putin promised Trump to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.
"If this bilateral meeting does not take place by Monday, I believe that it will mean once again that President Putin has been playing and mocking President Trump, and this cannot go unanswered," Macron said.
Possibility of a meeting between Putin and Zelensky
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Putin and Zelenskyy will most likely not meet He said that the governments of Germany and France would discuss the war in Ukraine"taking into account the fact that the meeting between President Zelensky and President Putin will obviously not take place - despite the agreement between Trump and Putin last week when we were in Washington."
