Prime Minister Robert Fico will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Uzhhorod. The main topic is not expected to be peace

Friday, September 5

A press conference will be held in Uzhhorod today after the meeting between Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. They are expected to hold talks for approximately two hours.

The Slovak Prime Minister will meet the President of Ukraine officially for the first time. Although they have already met face to face at the European Union summit in Brussels in October 2024, according to Robert Fico, it was only"for 15 seconds" during a joint photo session.

The Prime Minister has not yet been to Kiev, and joint government meetings were held near Uzhhorod and in Michalovce, Slovakia. His predecessors have met with Volodymyr Zelensky several times.

Eduard Heger, as Prime Minister, met with the Ukrainian President twice, in April 2022 and again in March 2023, both times in Kiev. During the first visit, he also visited the city of Bucha and met with the then Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. His successor, Ľudovít Ódor, also met with Volodymyr Zelensky twice – at a summit in Moldova and the second time during the official visit of the President of Ukraine to Bratislava in July 2023.

Robert Fico has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin three times since taking office, twice in Moscow and most recently this week on September 2 in China.

It carries a serious message.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico criticized Ukraine's attacks on energy infrastructure during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing on Tuesday. He also confirmed that he wants to discuss the issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
