New Interpol Leadership and Vision

The newly elected President of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), Lucas Philippe, Advisor for European and International Affairs at the French National Police Directorate, praised Morocco's support for his candidacy, highlighting that his vision for leading the organization will be based on a balance between continents and field work, in addition to relying on human capital to achieve common goals and make a tangible impact internationally. This came after his election on Thursday in Marrakech, which is hosting the 93rd session of the organization's General Assembly, succeeding the Emirati Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi.

The new international security official said: “I am very happy, not only because I was elected, but also because, fundamentally, our shared ideas and commitments were elected. I feel immense joy and pride to be in Morocco to celebrate this symbolic moment for this very beautiful organization, which, as you know, is over a hundred years old.” He added: “It is a police institution with a strong character, and I am very attached to it. My election as its president shows that the way I see things has the support of many countries that backed me, foremost among them Morocco, for which I have great respect that goes beyond our election, which is a shared victory.”

He added: “Morocco welcomed me with open arms, and you must have been impressed by the high level of commitment to organizing a global event of this size and strength,” continuing: “I am French, European, but above all, I am an Interpol member, and this means that I always remain attentive to real-time balances, ensuring balance between continents, and also balance between fieldwork and strategy. We are obliged to achieve results, but for me, even more than that, we are obliged to make an impact.”

The same spokesperson noted, in statements to Hespress, that “experiencing this event in Morocco will always have a special resonance, because my close colleagues at Interpol helped me from the beginning, especially the Vice President for Africa, Mr. Dakhissi, who was always by my side and helped me to reach this shared victory,” adding: “We have bilateral files, and other multilateral ones: police files, very technical files, and files related to geopolitical balances.

The beauty of this commitment is that we are fully aware of our global role, and we are always careful not to create new risks where none exist, and we pay close attention to opportunities.”

He stressed that “organized crime has taken on a very large size, and if we compare it to terrorism, decision-makers today cannot consider organized crime as merely a technical or marginal issue,” considering in this regard that “organized crime has become a global issue, so it is necessary to focus on foresight in this aspect.”

The new president of the International Criminal Police Organization “Interpol” explained that “human capital remains very important as well, especially in our relationship with technology, which we must control to ensure effectiveness,” highlighting that “there is also an important point for me, which is that if we want to make an impact, we must refocus on the issues that are raised and existing, in embodiment of the concept of an international police force close to the citizen, that is, not just talking about the future, but talking about the present.”

He continued: “I adopt a holistic and open approach. Having ideas is easy, but bringing everyone together is difficult. This will be the essence of my mandate. And I know that I can always, as I am doing today, count on Morocco in this beautiful story that unites us. I also believe that we should celebrate our victories.”
