President Donald Trump attended the Club World Cup final between Paris-Saint-Germain and Chelsea on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Wearing a dark suit, red tie, and with his right hand placed on his temple during the anthem ceremony, the president attended the match, which previews next year's World Cup, amid whistles and angry reactions from the stands.
The president's visit to the home of the New York Giants in the NFL coincided with the first anniversary of the attack he suffered in Butler, Pennsylvania, during a pre-campaign event to return to office. Although he had no public plans to commemorate the date, he traveled from his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, to attend the final round of the tournament in the FIFA presidential box.
Fighter jets flew overhead. There were fireworks, a concert by singer Robbie Williams, smoke bombs in the colors of the American flag, and military personnel attended the pre-game ceremony.
According to local media, whistles and boos were heard in different sections of the stands toward Trump's image when the television cameras focused on his position in the box and projected it onto the screens.
