Meteo for fire in Keratea: Stormy winds will continue to blow

Regarding the forest fire in the Togani Keratea area in Attica:

  • The pyrometeorological conditions in the wider area of the fire will remain particularly unfavorable until late afternoon (19:00/20:00) of Friday, August 8, 2025, while a slight improvement is expected during the night hours.
  • The main factor is the strengthened northerly winds in the area which will continue to blow gale force (7-8 Beaufort) until late afternoon (19:00/20:00) of Friday, August 8, 2025, then showing a slight weakening (5-6 Beaufort) until the early morning hours of Saturday, August 9, 2025.
  • The interaction of the northerly winds with the topography of the area leads to explosive behavior of the fire, especially where it encounters rich vegetation.

Based on the latest forecast data, a small and temporary improvement in pyrometeorological conditions (slight weakening of winds and recovery of moisture in fine dead forest fuels) is expected in the evening hours of Friday, August 8, 2025 (21:00/22:00) until the early morning hours of Saturday, August 9, 2025 (01:00/02:00), while then in the morning hours of Saturday, August 9, 2025, a renewed strengthening of northerly winds (7-8 Beaufort) is expected.

It is important to emphasize that in areas where the wind interacts with the topography, the winds will remain strong during the night hours.

Our team will continue to monitor the development of the fire and the latest forecast data and will return with further information if deemed necessary.

The following group of maps shows wind gusts in kilometers per hour at 18:00, and 21:00 on Friday, August 8, 2025, as well as at 00:00 and 03:00 on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
