Prime Minister Robert Fico recently returned from a vacation in Croatia and immediately attacked Progressive Slovakia. In addition to attending a coalition council meeting upon his return to Slovakia, he also called a press conference at which he accused the opposition of “Maidanizing the world.”
The attacks come at a time when Smer is losing voters and has historically low numbers.
A survey of political party preferences by the NMS agency was released a few days ago. The opposition Socialist Party leads Smer by several percentage points.

Fico: PS wants Serbian conflict in our country too
The Prime Minister's statement focused on events in Serbia. Over the weekend, hooligans linked to the Serbian ruling party beat up Slovaks organizing a photography exhibition in the village of Báčsky Petrovec, where the majority of residents historically identify as Slovak.
Fico had already said a few days ago that the incident was a domestic political matter for Serbia. He did not defend the Slovaks, but rather thanked the Serbian government for its approach to the Slovak national minority.
Today, Fico linked specific opposition representatives to the events in Báčský Petrovec. He accused PS leader Michal Šimečka and MP Lucie Plaváková (also PS) of"Majdanization" and support for the Serbian opposition. Both recently visited the country.
