Donald Trump didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize. Now the White House is responding.
– The Nobel Committee proves that they put politics above peace, writes White House spokesman Steven Cheung on X.
The Nobel Peace Prize this year goes to the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.
Trump has not yet commented on the award himself.
“President Trump will continue to make peace deals, end wars, and save lives. He has a humanitarian heart, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with sheer force of will,” Cheung writes.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that he deserves the Peace Prize, which has generated a lot of press coverage both in Norway and internationally.
The head of the Nobel Committee, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, has previously said that such media reports do not affect the committee, but was again asked about the Trump pressure during the announcement of this year's Peace Prize recipient.
"In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen every type of campaign and media attention. We get thousands of letters every year from people who want to say what, for them, leads to peace," he replied, emphasizing that they base their decisions solely on the will of Alfred Nobel.
