Calls for Recognition by Other Countries

"What he says doesn't matter. He's a very good guy. I like him, but that statement doesn't carry any weight," Trump told reporters at the White House, according to Reuters.

"What he says doesn't matter. It won't change anything," Trump said before visiting Scotland.

France will recognize the Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly in September, President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday.

The French head of state added that he hopes this will contribute to establishing peace in the region.

Macron, who announced the decision in a post on the X platform, published a letter sent to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, confirming France's intention to become the first major Western power to recognize the Palestinian state.

US and Israel firmly reject Macron's plan

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Macron's decision to recognize the Palestinian state in September"rewards terrorism."

"We strongly condemn President Macron's decision to recognize a Palestinian state near Tel Aviv in the wake of the October 7 massacre. Such a move rewards terrorism and risks creating another Iranian proxy, just as Gaza has become," Netanyahu wrote on the X platform.

The Americans also rejected French President Emmanuel Macron's plan.

"This reckless decision only serves Hamas propaganda and sets back the peace process. It is a slap in the face to the victims of October 7," said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
