During a closed press meetings at the White House The presidents of Ukraine and the United States talked about the supply of weapons, including long-range ones. Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this on briefing in Washington.
"We talked about air defense, it's very important for us. While we are talking now, a lot of drones are being used to strike Ukraine. We will continue to talk, in particular, about [weapons] production. The questions about all these schedules, time aspects are all complex issues. So our team will try to look at orders for different systems, from different countries. But the positive signal is that we will work," the president said.
According to Zelensky, part of the conversation with Trump was also devoted to"long-range systems" (probably a reference to Tomahawk cruise missiles). However, he refused to disclose details.
"We decided that we will not [publicly] talk about this for now. And the United States would not want an escalation, so possible questions on this topic will be left unanswered," Zelensky told reporters.
However, journalists still tried to ask questions about the Tomahawks. For example, one of the journalists asked Zelensky whether he had become more or less optimistic about the supply of Tomahawk missiles after his meeting with Trump."I'm a realist," the Ukrainian leader answered briefly with a smile.
"The American side said that it understands that we need them. No one has closed this topic. We must work on this more," Zelenskyy answered a question about the Tomahawks from another journalist.
The presidents also discussed Trump's announced meeting with Putin in Budapest.
"President [Trump] shared with me his dialogue with the Russian side. Therefore, we understand all the signals from Russia. They are not new. We are counting on President Trump's pressure to end this war," the Ukrainian leader said.
Zelensky's visit to Washington
As UNIAN reported, during a conversation with the media at the beginning of the meeting with Zelensky, Trump showed interest in Ukrainian-made combat drones At the same time, he emphasized that he seeks to achieve an end to the war without transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Instead, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Putin is clearly not ready to sit down at the negotiating table , so it is worth creating conditions under which these negotiations will become possible.
