European Response to US Aid Suspension

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that tomorrow or in the coming days intends to discuss with US President Donald Trump notification of the suspension of supplies of critical weapons to Ukraine.

As an UNIAN correspondent reports, Zelensky said this on joint press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, European Council President António Costa, and European Commission President Ursulo von der Leyen.

In particular, Zelensky was asked what types of weapons the US had suspended from providing to Ukraine and what were the reasons for making such a decision.

"First of all, of course, we count on continued American support. There are some types [of weapons] that, unfortunately, Europe does not have today. Especially when we talk about PAC3. I mean anti-aircraft missiles for the Patriot systems. They are very important. And also when we talk about systems," Zelenskyy said.

At the same time, as the head of state noted,"we also count on our Ukrainian production." But for this, Ukraine needs more funding. Zelensky noted:

"We talked about this today as well. And we have a really good relationship. We count on the EU, on Denmark, on our relationship."

He said that there is already some progress in interaction with the Europeans and "it helps a lot."

"Regarding our relations with the United States and this support - I hope that maybe tomorrow or in the coming days, these days, I will talk about this with President Trump," Zelensky said.

In turn, as Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen noted, the war in Ukraine has never concerned only Ukraine, because it concerns Europe.

"Therefore, if we want to protect Ukraine, Europe and the transatlantic alliance, we must provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance. So, we all hope that the US will continue to support Ukraine and, thanks to Ukraine, Europe. But if there are any gaps, I personally believe that we must be ready to fill them," Frederiksen emphasized.

At the same time, it is satisfied with the interaction with Ukraine that has already been established, and in particular, with direct financing of the Ukrainian defense industry.

The Danish Prime Minister is calling on other leaders to increase funding for Ukraine's defense industry capacity so that Ukraine can produce more critical weapons. Additional funding must be found for this. She noted:

"This will be the next step for Europe."

In addition, as Ursula von der Leyen added, it is very important to spread the message among EU member states that there are financial opportunities to directly support Ukraine. In particular, this is the Stability and Growth Pact, which concerns national security, as well as the SAFE joint procurement financial instrument.

In turn, as Antonio Costa reported, since the beginning of this year, EU member states have already supported Ukraine's military capabilities with 24 billion euros.

"Now they can do more," Costa added.

The US has suspended aid to Ukraine

As UNIAN reported, according to Politico, citing sources, the US Department of Defense suspended supplies to Ukraine certain types of anti-aircraft missiles and other high-precision ammunition due to the alleged reduction in stocks of artillery shells, air defense missiles, and high-precision weapons.

These types of weapons were contracted during Joe Biden's presidency as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, under which the United States finances the purchase of weapons for Ukraine from American defense companies.
