Zelensky proposes new bill ensuring "independence" of anti-corruption structures, following mass protests

Thursday, July 24

The announcement was made on the X platform.

"We have just approved the text of a draft law that guarantees a real consolidation" of the justice and security services and protects them "from any Russian influence or interference," while ensuring "the independence of anti-corruption agencies," Volodymyr Zelensky said.

This new document"will be presented to the Ukrainian parliament today," he added, according to le Figaro.

EU representatives welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's willingness to propose a new law after expressing concerns about the old draft.

"We have seen that the Ukrainian government has taken action. We welcome these actions," a European Commission spokesman said at the daily press briefing in Brussels.

Thousands of Ukrainians protested the initial law, claiming it limited the independence of anti-corruption institutions.
