247 - Governors aligned with Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) have begun negotiations to find a political solution that will allow the congressman to remain in the spotlight even when he is away from Congress. According to CNN Brasil, the proposal discussed with Eduardo's interlocutors is to appoint him as state secretary, allowing him to perform political functions without directly depending on his mandate in the Chamber of Deputies.
The strategy would allow Eduardo Bolsonaro to remain living in the United States, where he has been for months, working remotely with the administration of US President Donald Trump, aiming to impose sanctions on Brazilian authorities to prevent the trial of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) as part of the investigation into an alleged coup plot. He would also be responsible for establishing channels with other international leaders, such as Argentine President Javier Milei, with whom he maintains political closeness.
According to the report, Santa Catarina, governed by Governor Jorginho Mello (PL), is one of the states that has expressed interest in this partnership. Mello is a key ally of the Bolsonaro clan and sees the proposal as an opportunity to strengthen ties with the US government and maintain the Bolsonaro family's presence in political debate even outside of parliament.
At the same time, there are moves within the Chamber of Deputies itself to relax the rules governing parliamentary mandates. In June, Representative Evair Vieira de Melo (PP-ES) presented a proposal to amend the House's internal rules. The idea is to allow, in exceptional circumstances, a representative to exercise their mandate even while residing abroad.
Furthermore, the leader of the PL in the Chamber of Deputies, Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), is expected to present a strategy that would allow lawmakers to take leave of up to 240 days without pay in cases of personal interest. The measure would also pave the way for Eduardo Bolsonaro to maintain his political influence without formally losing his mandate.
