After the funeral of former president Ion Iliescu, his wife Nina Iliescu sent a message of appreciation to all those who accompanied the former president on his last journey.

"On the hardest day of my life, which meant a full life with Ion Iliescu, I want to thank everyone who organized, supported and participated in the funeral of the first President of free and democratic Romania. Thank you for responding with dignity to dignity, with love and appreciation, to his devotion and service to Romania", was the message sent on Thursday by Ion Iliescu's ex-wife.

The former president's wife declared herself grateful to those who"paid sincere tribute."

"I am grateful to all those who participated today in the solemn ceremony of an earthly farewell, but also to those who paid sincere tribute, from different parts of the country, to people I do not know, but with whom I shared the love for the country and for Ion Iliescu.

For me it is an immense pain, soothed by the honor with which you said goodbye to a man, a leader, a friend, an adversary. I respect all those who were close to me and cared for the mourning of my heart", conveys Nina Iliescu.

The former president's wife also thanked the doctors and nurses at the"Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu" Emergency Clinical Hospital for their efforts. "I thank the doctors and medical staff who in the last two months have made huge efforts to prevent the disease from winning more fiercely and sooner," Nina Iliescu said on Thursday.

The funeral service for former President Ion Iliescu ended Thursday at noon. He was buried at the Ghencea 3 cemetery, with military honors.

Although the funeral took place in the Union Hall at Cotroceni Palace, the funeral service was private. Among those who attended the funeral were former prime ministers Nicolae Văcăroiu, Adrian Năstase, Viorica Dăncilă, Marcel Ciolacu and Theodor Stolojan, as well as current prime minister Ilie Bolojan.
