Reasons for Meeting Difficulties

LØRENSKOG (Dagbladet): - I was shaky, the profile admits to Dagbladet.

This summer, star couple Birk Ruud and Tonje Frigstad revealed that they were engaged. After a somewhat troubled season, Ruud rounded off the season with World Cup gold in slopestyle and World Cup bronze in Big Air earlier this year.

This summer, there was a new precious metal. This time around my fiancé's finger.

- It was very nice. It was something I had been thinking about for a year. When summer came and the time was right, I had planned and knew exactly where it would be and which ring I would have. It was a great joy to get it done, the freeskier tells Dagbladet now.

Ruud is Norway's most high-profile freeskier. In 2022, he won Olympic gold in Big Air. Bæringen also has two golds, one silver and one bronze in World Championships, in addition to a host of other achievements from, among others, the X-games.

This summer he had to perform again - with a proposal.

- I was nervous, yes. It was like I was giving a presentation to a large audience and wasn't very well prepared.

- Weren't you well prepared then?

- Yes, but not exactly how I was going to say it. I tried to say it several times in my head and stuff. I was shaky, but I got it out. The coolest thing was that she was surprised and hadn't seen it coming. She was very happy. It was a very nice experience, Ruud answers.

- How did you react?

- I don't know what I expected. It happened quite quickly. For Tonje it was a bit unreal, and for me it was too - and I knew I was going to do it here for a year, he adds, smiling.

Frigstad, an influencer and TV personality, is from Kristiansand. Ruud had planned for the proposal to take place at her favorite spot on Flekkerøy.

- What are the plans for the engagement and wedding?

- We thought we would give ourselves three years. That would give us plenty of time to focus on everything we wanted to do. Planning often takes time, and having time is always nice.

- Did you have to give up to do that?

- No, no. That's why we've set aside so much time, so that we can plan a little bit at a time, and figure things out along the way. I think I'll keep going until I'm like 34. I want to have a family while I'm at it, I think. We'll see - it might be 30 too.

- What is your dream wedding?

- It's an adventure from morning to night. I think we're going to be in Norway, I imagine. Now Tonje may get mad at me for everything I say here, but I'm thinking of a farm, a big lawn with a red carpet and a wreath of flowers. Maybe you're looking down at a fjord, like it is in Geiranger...

Dagbladet's photographer quickly adds that he was present at Princess Märtha-Louise and Durek Verrett's wedding, and wonders if it will be in that style.

- A bit like that, but there was a lot of show then, Ruud answers and continues his reasoning:

- A very good wedding dance and lots of great friends, family and a good atmosphere. The most important thing for Tonje is that it will be a very good wedding dance.

- Do I have to practice then?

- Yes, then I'll have to practice. I'm not allowed not to practice, the ski star replies and laughs.

The couple now live together in Oslo, but the plan is to get something a little bigger. More specifically, a farm with plenty of space, the possibility of a large family and a safe environment, Ruud describes.

- Tonje and I have looked at farms before, but we're still not quite there. We'll probably have to get into our 30s before we get a farm. I'm looking around Finn for small farms and different plots of land, so that I can build my own training program.

- Space for a large family. The plan is to have a flock there?

- Not a big group, but I could imagine at least three children. So a small group then. It would have been nice.
