JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo apologized for the incident where a Brimob tactical vehicle (rantis) ran over an online motorcycle taxi driver named Affan Kurniawan (21) to death in Pejompongan, Central Jakarta, Thursday (29/8/2025).
"I extend my deepest condolences to the late Affan and, of course, to his entire family. Earlier, we offered our condolences and apologized to our institution for the tragedy," Listyo told reporters at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital in Central Jakarta early Friday (August 29, 2025).
Listyo said he had met Affan's family to express his apologies and condolences in person.
Apart from that, he also met with a number of figures in the victim's residential area.
"We also met with the neighborhood association (RT), mosque administrators, and community association (RW)," he said.
He admitted that he deeply regretted the incident that befell Affan which ultimately resulted in the victim losing his life.

"On behalf of the leadership of the Metro Police and also on behalf of the unit, I convey my deepest apologies," explained Asep in a press conference at the Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Central General Hospital (RSCM), Central Jakarta, Thursday (28/8/2025) evening.
Apart from apologizing, Asep also expressed his deep condolences to Affan's family.
He said he had met with Affan's family and was well received.
"We can feel what the family and the deceased felt," explained Asep.
7 police officers arrested
Head of the Indonesian National Police's Propam Division, Inspector General Abdul Karim, said that seven police officers were arrested in connection with the Brimob armored vehicle case that crushed Affan to death.
"We have now secured 7 perpetrators," said Abdul Karim at RSCM, Central Jakarta, Thursday evening.
The seven police officers were Kompol C, Aipda M, Bripka R, Briptu D, Bripda M, Baraka Y, and Baraka J.
