Contrary to Daniel Quintero's decision hours earlier, Senator Iván Cepeda stated that he will remain in the race for the presidential nomination of the Historic Pact and will participate in the October 26 referendum. He reiterated that this is a partisan mechanism that should not disqualify the party from participating in the Broad Front in March.
"We are moving forward. On October 26 there will be a consultation, both for Congress and to define who will be the pre-candidate for the Historic Pact. It must be clear that we set as a condition to the National Electoral Council (CNE) that this would be a partisan consultation and that the person is not disqualified from participating in March," said Cepeda, who is meeting with several Pact activists.
He also reported that a request will be sent to the CNE to certify in writing that the October referendum is partisan, not interparty. However, the CNE has been indicating that the Pact is not yet a political party, as its legal status is not yet valid, and Colombia Humana and Progresistas remain excluded due to unresolved procedures.
"We have encountered all kinds of obstacles and difficulties of a purely legal and formal nature, without any reason or basis, on the part of the National Electoral Council (CNE), which demonstrates their immense fear of us reaching the stage of democratic participation," the pre-candidate stated.
