Qatari Prime Minister: Israeli leaders are arrogant... and hostages are not Netanyahu's priority

Friday, September 12

Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, said that Doha appreciates the solidarity shown by members of the UN Security Council following the Israeli attack on the Qatari capital.

In his speech during the emergency session of the UN Security Council, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar added that his country appreciates the efforts of the Council members, which resulted in the adoption of the press statement issued at the conclusion of the meeting.

He explained that the Israeli attack targeted buildings known to all as the headquarters of the Hamas negotiating delegation, as well as a residential neighborhood housing schools and diplomatic missions. He noted that what happened constitutes a violation of the sovereignty of a state that is a full member of the United Nations.

The Qatari Prime Minister noted that the attack poses a major test to the international system, asserting that Israel's leaders are afflicted with arrogance and power intoxication after having guaranteed impunity.

He continued:"The Israeli Prime Minister came up with outrageous justifications and false interpretations for the aggression, while emphasizing Qatar's complete belief in the importance of mediation and its role as a hope in this bloody conflict."

He pointed out that the attack on Doha was carried out by an extremist leadership, revealing that liberating prisoners was not a priority for those who decided to carry it out. He emphasized that his country would continue its humanitarian and diplomatic role without hesitation.

He stated that Qatar has chosen peace as an approach and will not be deterred from it by advocates of war and destruction. He considered that Israel, led by bloodthirsty extremists, has transgressed international borders and laws, and that the countries and peoples of the region will not accept this behavior or the rhetoric that accompanies it.

He stressed the need not to surrender to the arrogance of extremists and to strive seriously towards a two-state solution.

He concluded:"The attack on our land has revealed that liberating prisoners is not a priority for Israeli officials, and that the extremists who rule Israel today do not care about prisoners and do not prioritize their cause."
