A flotilla with actress Susan Sarandon, environmental activist Greta Thunberg, and other participants set off from Barcelona to the Gaza Strip with humanitarian aid on board.

It is noted that the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission will attempt to break through the Israeli blockade of the Palestinian territory and deliver humanitarian aid, food, water, and medicine to Gaza, amid the intensification of Israel's offensive operation in Gaza City.

Organizers said the naval convoy, consisting of approximately 20 boats and representatives from 44 countries, will join other ships from ports in Italy, Greece and Tunisia in the coming days, and will make its way from the western Mediterranean to the Gaza Strip.

"The story here is about Palestine. About how people are deliberately deprived of the most basic means of survival," Thunberg said at a press conference in Barcelona.

Thunberg, Sarandon and Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham are among the most recognizable figures in the expedition, which also includes activists, politicians such as former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau, and journalists.

As Ukrinform reported, on June 9, Israeli military detained the Madleen humanitarian aid ship, which was heading to the Gaza Strip. On board were Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg, Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham, French member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan, and other activists.
