Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident, has been identified as the alleged gunman behind the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk was shot and killed during a public appearance at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed Robinson’s identity during a press conference on Friday, alongside FBI Director Kash Patel, state officials, and members of law enforcement. Robinson is currently in custody.

Before the official confirmation, multiple media reports had already confirmed Robinson’s identity as the suspect.

So, who is Tyler Robinson?

According to the report by The New York Post, Tyler Robinson is a local resident of Uta, where Kirk was killed. The Post revealed his identity on Friday, citing law enforcement sources.

Additional details about Robinson’s background have since emerged. According to Daily Mail, the alleged shooter confessed to his father, Matt Robinson, a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Sources told the publication that his father then contacted authorities and ensured his son was safely handed over before police could take him into custody.

He was reportedly a student at Utah State University and was studying on a scholarship, insiders told Daily Mail. Social media profiles linked to the family also show that Robinson has two younger brothers.

Charlie Kirk, 31, founder of the conservative group Turning Point USA and a vocal supporter of Trump, was killed by a single gunshot during the university event. His death sparked a large-scale manhunt involving hundreds of officers from more than 20 law enforcement agencies.
